The name of Matanga Hill comes after the Rishi Matanga who used to live on this hill in the period of Ramayana. It is this place where Vali could never enter as he was cursed by Rishi Matanga that he would die if he dared enter the area of Matanga Hill, and therefore Sugriva his younger brother beaten and bullied by Vali took refuge on this Hill. During the Vijayanagara reign, it was believed that the power and protection of the sage emanated from this hill, and protected the royal capital.

Brihaddeshi is a classical Sanskrit (dated ca. 6th to 8th century) text on Indian classical music which is written by  Matanga Muni

According to Ramayan, Hanuman, Vali, Sugreev, Jambvant were Matangs. And there was the rishi Matang or Jambmuni residing on rishyamukh parvat in kishkindha (at present Matanga Parvata) he was guru of shabhari

The story of Sabari starts with Kabandha telling about the Pampa Lake and the Mount Rishyamuka (at present Matanga Parvata). Maharshi MATANGA – A matang (harijan caste) & Guru of Shabari. she met Sage Matanga at the foot of the Mountain Rishyamukha and accepted him as guru, serving him with devotion. the sage Matanga said that Lord Ram shall give her darshan and asks her to wait for his arrival, this I can say on the basis of my spiritual power. Saying thus, the sage sitting in lotus posture attains Mahasamadhi. As per her guru's words, Shabari waits for the arrival of Ram.

Purana

Kalika Purana
According to ‘Kalika Purana’ once The Deities went to the Ashram of ‘Matanga-muni’ and eulogized “Mahamaya”.  Adyashakti  Mahamaya delighted with their prayer and revealed as the wife of ‘Matanga-muni’ and enquired to the Deities, whose Praise are they doing! That time a Nymph of Paradise with color of mountain exposed from ‘wife of Matanga-muni’ and answered for the Deities “They are doing my praise”. The divine Lady was as black as collyrium, so She had known as “KALI”.
According to ‘Sri Sri Chandi’ in ancient time there was two Demon brothers named ‘Shumbh & Nisumbh’, they were very cruel in nature and tyrannical. The Deities could not find any way to defeat the demon brothers as they were powered with the blessing of ‘Lord Bramha’. The Deities decided to go to Himalaya and practice ‘Devi-sukta’ as it is the only procedure to please Devi Mahamaya or Devi Parbati, Who only can rescue them from this condition. Hearing the practice of ‘Devi-Sukta’ “Devi Koushiki” revealed from ‘Devi Amba or Parbati or Devi Gouri’. As ‘Devi Koushiki’ separated from the of ‘Devi Gouri’; She became very Black like Collyrium and from then on She famoused as “DEVI KALI” or ‘Kalimata’.

Interpretation/musical representation of the Nada Brahman (notation: Oliver Moebus) Translation:

In the form of sound (nada) I recall the [god] Brahma, in the form of sound I recall the [god] Visnu [here: Janardana], in the form of sound I recall the supreme transcendental power (para sakti) [of the great god Siva] – therefore this [whole] world is by its nature sound. (quote of Matanga’s Brhaddesi, 1.18-19)

Note Father of Indian Classical Music Matanga Muni say that :- Without sound there is no song, without sound no tones, without sound no dance. Therefore this [whole] world (jagat) is in its nature sound. The [God] Brahma is a form of sound, the [God] Visnu (here: Janardana) is a form of sound, the supreme transcendental power (Para-Sakti) is a form of sound and the great God [Mahesvara, i.e. Siva] is a form of sound” (Brhaddesi 1.18–19).                New Updates will be Available soon..
